Big stuff

Big... yeah... 30 cm decent size  Orenburg spindle looks kind of puny in this.... tub
it was that gray stuff over there on the top. has luster

so the tub

do I just want to take that to my wheel...Looking at the photo, it's quite tempting indeed.
Because this distraction may get old by the time I'm done on the spindle and I have to add some new distracting cool pieces to the big distraction... well comes with the clean up... and a small problem, the tub where the "distraction" lived is taken by the fiber, bummer, did not think of that, I guess I need to buy a new tub.

White aka "golden fleece" progress on the wheel. no I'm not spinning "dog hair" thickness, I'm spinning more practical cobweb.

More fleece spinning

here is some carded wool and Schacht Reeves 30'' Saxony wheel.  the fleece washed yesterday is in the background on the gray mat. the rest- carded stuff to go through. some of that last year fleece was ok to card, some - ...nepps, and Patrick Green carder is not the worst carder in the world by far, fine drum should work just fine on that fleece, and it did one some of it, but some, that had... let's put it this way... tips that were... chemically damaged (by whatever that sheep was rolling in etc, nastiest stuff I had to cut before washing). last time I bought the fleece as a group and I did not see the fine fleece that could be purchased. Lesson learned :). I did not want to even try to comb the stuff that had damaged fleece tips, I should have tossed it in the garden like my dear husband suggested :). makes me want to just rip though it on Reeves versus doing this

at least on reeves the wheel spins for me, less motion for the hands.

Золотое руно и другие Golden fleece etc

In the light in my basement it's not quite golden, but it did make me wonder about that golden fleece story... once again. what color was the golden fleece...

Do people store fleece in grease as is? It looks like they do. but for some learning purposes it will do.
it was white indeed
 from this

to locks
it does not look bad for a free-be. Someone has told me that it may worth it to try to save Klide's fleece.
So I did test wash a small amount, 50-60ge worth each bag. The free fleece... looks better than the one I've paid for the other year as a part of a group buy, did not get lucky and got one before the last number... all the good stuff was gone by that time, should have just picked the medium fleece and do not do that finer fleece.
carding it did not end up in the best quality fiber, that's what I mean. I'll see what yarn can be done from it. lace singles if plied n-ply can hide many things, all I can do is see what will happen next

hey, in the wost case I can use some sentimental felted slippers :).

mohair and Orenburg goat down

side by side mohair (angora goats, fiber 11+cm long, adult) and Orenburg goat down (adult)

washed fiber. white

left to right:
mohair fleece, washed, Orenburg goat down fleece, washed
 mohair closer
 Orenburg goat down closer

 lock pulled from each fiber.

Orenburg goat down has guard hair, about same thickness as mohair fibers are. Orenburg goat down has weak/short fibers мякиш. No make a decent shawl one needs to get rid of 2 things - guard hair coat and myakish coat. That means combing, not carding.
